70 ROYAL PALM HOTELS & RESORTS Em 1972, para suprir a demanda crescente por acomodações e a falta de estabelecimentos hoteleiros de padrão internacional na região de Campinas, a Holiday Inn International deu início à edificação do Holid y Inn Campinas, que se tornaria a primeira instalação da rede no Brasil. O desejo de Roy Winegardener, então vice-presidente da empresa, de estabelecer a marca no país se materializou ao se tornar parceiro do brasileiro Nivaldo Rinque na criação da Hotéis Nivaroy. A cerimônia de lançamento da pedra fundamental aconteceu em novembro de 1972, e a inauguração oficial do ho el ocorreu em 26 de junho de 1974, com a presença do prefeito de Campinas na época, Lauro Péricles Gonçalves. No seu lançamento, o hotel oferecia 103 quartos aos seus hóspedes. O Bar Alambique (abaixo, à esquerda) e o Restaurante Palomares (abaixo) deixaram saudade mas tiveram de ceder o espaço para ambientes mais modernos The Bar Alambique (below, left) and the Restaurant Palomares (below) are fondly remembered but had to give way to more modern spaces In 1972, to meet the rising demand for accommodations and fill the gap of international standard hotel establishments in the Campinas region, Holiday Inn International began the construction of Holiday Inn Campinas, which would become the chain's first facility in Brazil. The ambition of Roy Winegardener, then vice-president of the company, to bring the brand to the country materialized when he partnered with Brazilian Nivaldo Rinque to establish Hotéis Nivaroy. The cornerstone-laying ceremony took place in November 1972, and the hotel's official opening occurred on June 26, 1974, with the presence of the then-mayor of Campinas, Lauro Péricles Gonçalves.
